The Festa del Redentore (Feast of the Redeemer) is held annually on the third Sunday in July to celebrate the end of one of the great plague epidemics in the 16th century.
Traditionally the Venetians would put tables in the streets – or in their boats – and eat together, before the fireworks display late in the evening.
Now most of these spaces are taken up by tourists and view of the fireworks is often impeded by huge yachts.
